FAQ - Wedding Cakes

How big of a wedding cake do I need?
You need to know the following before you order your cake:

Number of invited guest. (Not number of invitations.) A general rule of thumb is to count 80% of your guest list
Time and location of your reception. We usually will deliver your cake approx. 2 hours before your reception
Will alcohol be served? It has been our experience that if alcohol is being served there is a slight decline on the amount of cake that is eaten.
Are you planning a Groom's cake. Probable 50% of our brides order a groom's cake, so it is a personal choice. Whatever size you order, there's usually no leftovers on groom's cake.
The type of "look" you want. Do you want the smooth look of fondant or the traditional buttercream. And no, you can not get the look of fondant with buttercream.

What does fondant taste like?
Contrary to opinions, fondant does not taste bad. There are some brands that are not very good. We do use one of the most popular brands called Pettinice and it taste sweet like buttercream but with a chewy texture.

How long into the reception the cake will be cut.
We recommend that you cut your cake very soon after the meal has been served. If you prolong it, some guest will leave before the cutting of the cake.

I have a picture from a magazine, Can you duplicate it?
We can do almost anything as far as designs go, but be prepared to pay a higher price. Most pictures of cakes in magazines are in their because of their unique designs and almost always take several hours longer to make.

When should I order the cake?
You can begin getting ideas together as soon as you want. We recommend you place your order with us approx. 3 months in advance. You can order on shorter notice, but you may be limited to designs and delivery.

If you want something specially designed for you please give me at least 2 weeks notice. It takes time to think of the best way to do it. You can't come to me on Wednesday and want something extraordinary by Saturday.

Can you copy an invitation or licensed design?
Due to the copyright laws, we are forbidden to copy them exactly. We can however, decorate a cake that would compliment your design. The licensed character pans are made for home bakers only. There is a $10, 000.00 fine imposed on commercial bakeries for not complying with this law.

Can you use whipped icing on any cake?
Whipped cream icing has a different consistency and there is a limit to coloring and designs. While it does not have to be refrigerated, we recommend it because it will keep if a creamier texture.
